What Was The Name Of That Movie!? 5 Quick Ways To Find A Movie Name Online

What Was The Name Of That Movie!? 5 Quick Ways To Find A Movie Name Online

So you’re trying to recall the name of a movie but you’re absolutely stumped. You don’t want this to keep you up at night but you’ve tried everything and you still don’t have a title. What do you do? Well, when you don’t know how to find the name of a movie you can’t remember, you can simply head over to ‘What Is My Movie’ and try describing the movie based on what you know. The strangely accurate site can make a guess based on something as vague as a scene description!

Not sure how to use the site? Curious to know if there are other hacks to unearthing titles that escape you? Here’s a short guide outlining the secrets of finding forgotten movie names.

RELATED: Feel Good Movies: Top 35 Happy Movies of All Time

‘What Is My Movie?’

‘What Is My Movie’ is a scarily accurate movie finder site that can suggest the name of a movie by a scene or plot description, an incomplete title, and actors’ and directors’ names. By “scarily accurate”, we mean that the site can easily find a film like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind with the sparse description “erasing memories”. Creepy? A little bit. Useful? Hell yeah.

According to the site, the search engine was originally developed by tech company Valossa for Arctic15, a startup matchmaking conference. The team sought to “present a new way of searching video content” by attempting to analyse data that can’t normally be analysed by machines, from scenes to themes to plot and dialogue.

The site now hosts 40,000 titles in its library, including movie titles from the 1900s to the most recent releases. However, don’t expect the site to be 100 percent up to date. After all, a new movie is released every week!

How Do You Use It?

It’s simple. In the search box, type in anything you can recall from a film. You can input whatever you can remember from the film’s title, its plot, its characters, or its actors. You can also describe specific scenes or type out bits of dialogue. Once the site gives you its suggestions, you can refine your search by choosing title matches, actor matches, or director matches.

You can also help the site by letting it know if its suggestions are good matches or bad matches!

Are There Other Ways To Name That Movie You Can’t Remember?

With IMDB

IMDB, or the Internet Movie Database, is a site that records pretty much everything about every single movie that’s ever been released. The only problem is that IMDB’s search engine is incredibly simple. You can look up an actor, director, or production company, but you’ll have to go through their page and rifle through the list of movies they’ve done to find the right one. If none of the titles ring any bells, you could be stuck clicking on each one for hours!

However, there is one trick that could work. Using this URL, you can attempt to find a film on IMDB using Google by entering short plot descriptions.

Remember to keep it simple though! For example, if you want to find the film A Quiet Place, you’re going to want to use keywords like “no sound”, “horror”, and “deaf”. If you want to find the film Someone Great, you can use keywords like “Netflix”, “break up”, and “New York”. And if you want to find the film Blade Runner 2049, you can try the keywords “IMAX”, “future”, and “cyberpunk”.

Hot Tip

When all else fails, you can try posting a question on IMDB’s message boards. It’s filled with filmy folk who love to dissect and discuss films.

With Filmfind

Just like IMDB’s message boards, Filmfind is a community of cinema-lovers where a movie search query is answered by real people instead of a search engine or AI. The site works like a forum where you can either describe what a movie is about and wait for someone to come up with an answer, or volunteer to answer another person’s query.

With Wild About Movies

If for some reason you know a film’s release date but not its title, actors, or director, you can head over to Wild About Movies – a site that categorises films by year then by release date. While it’s highly unlikely you’re going “What was the name of that movie that was released in 2010?”, it’s still fun to go through each year on this site and make comparisons between what kinds of movies were popular on certain years.

With The Internet Movie Browser

The Internet Movie Browser is a movie database with an extensive range of filters. You can insert film titles, the names of the actors and directors, release dates, and production companies into the search bar, and then refine the search by providing a range for the release date and runtime and ticking off genres and countries. You can also organise results based on critics’ scores.

While it’s not the easiest way to search for a film whose title you don’t know, it is good for comparing film ratings and finding top-rated films.

The Gossip Girl reboot, arguably one of the biggest TV series revivals yet (sorry Gilmore Girls), is upon us. And, we couldn't be more excited.

The original series, based on the book series by Cecily von Ziegesar, had us glued to our screens like the show’s protagonists to their iPhones, and this new incarnation by HBO Max, is already tracking the same trajectory.

“Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl,” the show’s synopsis reads.

“The prestige series will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years.”

We’re imagining an edgier more Euphoria-esque spin on the old favourite, which would be fitting given its release caused quite a stir back in 2007, mostly thanks to furious parents outraged at the sexual and salacious nature of the show.

While Kristen Bell returns as the infamous voice of the anonymous entity that is Gossip Girl, the show will focus on a new generation of teens played by Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak and Savannah Lee Smith.

In this first official trailer for the reboot we can see our new lead characters mingling at an elite party as Gossip Girl says, “You’ve gotten so comfortable, thinking you’re in control of your image, your actions, the narrative but you forgot one thing: I can see you. And before I’m through I’ll make sure you see you too.”

Any deeper details on the reboot have been kept purposefully vague.

How will the reboot stand up against the OG?

“My hope is that we make it to airing and people don’t know,” the reboot’s showrunner, Josh Safran, told Cosmopolitan.

What we do know is that anticipation is high and we’re not expecting to be let down by the big reveal. We also now know when (roughly) and most importantly where we can tune in down under.

Gossip Girl rebooted will premiere on BINGE from July 8, so we recommend you sing yourself up to the streaming site ASAP – here.

Where in Australia was box office topping Mortal Kombat filmed?

The new film may be taking over the world right now but its origins stem from somewhere close to home. - by Julian Rizzo-Smith

Mortal Kombat. It’s a name that either reminds you of your youth, the game’s iconically gruesome depictions of violence, or that catchy blood-pumping theme tune. And, in 2021, it’s perhaps the best action-packed martial arts film of the year and Aussie homegrown!

But, where was the epic tournament that pits undead Japanese legendary fighters and everyday soldiers (one played by Aussie actress Jessica McNamee) filmed?

The short answer is not far, in fact it was filmed in South Australia.

Mortal Kombat

Mortal Kombat is filmed down under.

Warner Bros.

According to Kotaku, the film was first announced in 2019 as a new project by the South Australian government’s South Australia Film Corporation.

Per LatLong, the film specifically was shot in Adelaide, Adelaide Hills, Adelaide Studios, Coober Pedy, Mount Crawford, Mount Lofty, and Port Adelaide.

You can see where each of these locations are on the map below.

In an interview with IGN, Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid said that filming in South Australia was so breathtaking and immersive, the visual effects team barely needed to do much work.

“I wanted to bring a realism and an authenticity and non-VFX feel to these unreal worlds,” he told the outlet.

“We shot in a disused coal mine in the middle of Australia, and pretty much in-camera. That was a pretty incredible location.”

“So the locations we used and the places we found, I really wanted it to feel as in-camera as possible, and we just enhanced what was there.”

Mortal Kombat is currently airing in theatres. It stars Aussies Jessica McNamee and Josh Lawson, alongside martial arts experts Joe Taslim, Lewis Tan, Ludi Lin, and Hiroyuki Sanada as fighters from around the universe that come together to compete in an epic, gory showdown.

Last weekend, the Aussie-made film adaptation of the popular video game franchise quickly took the top of the weekend box office in the U.S.
